Peaks of Otter Christmas Classic 5k
ABOUT THIS RACE
The Peaks of Otter Christmas Classic 5K is on its 44th year and going strong. We had 600 runners/walkers registrations last year and are hoping to see even more this year.
As usual, we will be including the “top of the Hill” challenge, which hands out $25 to each of the first male and female runners to reach the top. We will have monetary awards to the top 4 male and female runners along with turkeys for the top two and mugs and custom medals. We will hand out door prizes at the end of the race while runners enjoy the post race refreshments, including cinnamon rolls that have become a tradition from Everbreeze Farms.
THIS YEAR! We are using Riverside Runners and their chip timing system…So stick around at the end because the results will be quick.
We also will be having a one mile kids run, which we call the “Peaks Junior” that is timed. The 1 mile race will immediately follow the 5K. Medals will be handed out after all have completed. The top male and female finishers will receive a special prize.
What do the proceeds go for?
This run is a fundraiser for the Bedford YMCA (501c3 corporation) Annual Campaign which gives over $75,000 in Financial Aid each year. 100% of the proceeds raised will go for scholarships to low and fixed income families, seniors and individuals which enables them to join our Health & Wellness and Childcare programs.
Those programs have long been helping the people in our community reach and maintain their goals of living a healthy lifestyle. We have so many who have come to the Y and found a place that rewards their efforts. So many live much more productive lives because of the programs that we can provide for them. This is why the Christmas Classic 5K exists and that is why we need runners to come out and support this exciting even. I want to thank all of people, volunteers and sponsors that believe in this race’s importance and make it possible to recreate every year…

DETAILS:
Time:December 2, 2023, Sat., 8:30 am. sharp, Kids Races will follow immediately after, approx. 9:45am
Place: Bedford Baptist Church, 1516 Oakwood St, Bedford VA 24523
Entry Fee: $25/single & increases to $30/single on Oct 20th & $35/single on race day.
Team/Corp Cup – $25 per team member & increases to $30 on Oct 20th & No team sign ups on race day.
Peaks Junior Mile – $12/single & increases to $15 on Oct 27th, approx.. 9:45 am.
Registration: Pre-registered participants may pick up packets at the Bedford YMCA the day before the race (Nov 30th & Dec. 1st). Race day registration will be at Bedford Baptist Church from 7:00 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. (Dec. 2nd)
*There is also a virtual option for those whom are unable to attend – 5K/$25 and 1 mile/$12 and it runs from Dec. 1st – Dec. 2nd.
Refreshments & Amenities: There will be hospitality area for runners at the church with free refreshments, (including cinnamon rolls) and door prizes.
Team/Corporate Cup Team: A team must consist of 5 or more male and/or female members and representing of the same company, organization, foundation, group, etc. ALL MUST BE PRE-REGISTERED BEFORE RACE DAY. The average of the top five runners’ placement position will be counted in scoring.
Course: Course is rolling on pavement that runs from Bedford Baptist Church. Starting at the exit, enter across Oakwood St. and turn left then continue on Oakwood, turn right on Longwood, then right onto Hampton Ridge, left turn on Locust St. then left onto Elm St., right turn back on Longwood Ave., turn right into Old Bedford Middle School parking lot, across parking lot then turn right onto Peaks St., right onto Witfield Dr., right on Oakwood St., cross over Oakwood St and back into the exit of Bedford Baptist Church.
